I'm Pip,
& I help start-ups, small and medium sized businesses (SME's) protect and care for their people, and in so doing support and facilitate duty holders (management, executive, and potential company officers) exercise their due diligence and legal obligations.
Inherently, we all appreciate how important it is to keep people safe and well, and the latest research time and time again reinforces the value of a safe, healthy, and happy workforce, e.g. improved productivity & retention, better working relationships, greater innovation, passion and collaborative troubleshooting to improve business outcomes. What could be more valuable to a start-up than that?
Furthermore, with the advent of amended work health & safety laws in many jurisdictions, the penalties for duty holders & PCBU's (person conducting a business or undertaking) getting it wrong are significant.
The regulators don't discriminate when it comes to the WHS law and potential prosecutions for negligence. Which, in my view I generally understand, however creates a somewhat unfair playing field for the SME group over the larger corporates who have an army of internal labour resources devoted to their 'layers of defense'. Let's be honest, it's not the Executive Company Officers of big corporations at risk of being personally imprisoned under industrial manslaughter laws, it's the SME senior management group that are.
Start Ups & SMEs are busy enough just trying to survive and thrive, which doesn't leave much time for anything else. Consultants are expensive and third-party digital platforms can be good but do tie you up to ongoing commitment & subscription-based fee structures, and still require company tailoring.
This is where I hope this resourced site and I can be of some service - by leveraging off my years of practitioner experience including across industries like mining, o&g, utilities, construction, and agriculture; and a plethora of internal and external roles such as consultancy through to Company WHS Director positions held within companies.
